Here are the girls’ school pictures from this year. I can’t believe how much they have changed in a year. My little girls are growing up so incredibly fast, that I can hardly stand it. I know there is much fun in store for our future as they grow older and we can do more things…but it is still sad to me that we are past the little girl stage. I mean, we still have a few more years of them wanting to hang out with us instead of heading to the school parties, going to the movies with friends, etc. but it is approaching way too fast for me.

    My Girls

I am so very happy that my girls have one another. There is no love like that of sisters. Seeing them cuddled up together, dreaming of who knows what, and perfectly content, puts their little fights and squabbles into perspective.

I’ve said before that I am proud of my family.
Proud of my parents and step-parents getting along so well and making the lives of the children they love, so easy.
I am proud of my brother Gabriel and his abilities (he qualified for State in Bocce Ball over the weekend!).
I am proud of my sister Andrea and her wonderful girlfriend Lara (who’s KC Tribe Women’s football team won 76-0 over the weekend!) and the strength they show me.
I am proud of my husband who has worked such long hours lately and his perseverence and dedication to our family. (Love you Schmoopie!)

There are many people to be proud of in my family.

My sister Margaret and her husband David are no exception. Last weekend they finally got to welcome their son off the plane from Ghana. They have waited for Richmond for years and are now able to give him the life that he deserves.

Richmond was greeted at the airport last Saturday by a slew of family. Probably a bit overwhelming for the shy 16-year old, but he seemed to do well with all the attention.

He has tasted more foods in the past week than he ever could have in Ghana and has had more Pepto Bismol than before as well. He has been to the mall with his cousin. He has fed the animals that live on their small farm out in the country. He has his own room and a bed he can call his own.
Richmond has cousins to hang out with.
Aunts and uncles that can’t wait to spoil him.
Grandparents that want him to have every opportunity available to him.
But, most importantly, he has parents who love him. Parents that would give up everything for him. Parents who can’t wait to watch him play soccer and graduate high school. Parents that already know and love him more than they have ever loved anyone.

I’m so happy for the three of you!

Here are some pictures from the Big Day!

I’ve seen this floating around Blogland, so I thought I would join in. I don’t know that anyone cares about these silly questions, but it is fun to fill out.

    ABC’s of me

A: Age: Creeping up on the big 30.

B: Bed size: Queen. I would like a King, but I love our bedroom furniture. It’s Ethan Allen, but discontinued so it’s not like we could get a larger size very easily.

    C. Chore you hate: Probably laundry because it is never done. Someone is always wearing something and I know I get to wash it.

    D. Dogs: My favorite dog growing up was Nikki, a Collie-type mutt we had from the time I was a baby until I was about 13 or 14. She was wonderful. Schmoopie and I have had two Great Danes (sadly, one died and the other we found a better home for) and a Golden Retriever that I adored but also found a different home because he was an escape artist and constantly ran away. I would love to get a smaller dog for the kids someday, but I also enjoy the lack of responsibility. Side note: as I was typing about the Great Danes, I was watching HGTV and the people buying a house had a Great Dane named, Roxy, who looked exactly like our last Dane, Echo.

    E. Essential start to your day: Coffee for myself and Bingo always wants chocolate milk right away. Then it’s breakfast for the husband and kids. I usually wait about an hour before I eat.

    F. Favorite color: Green. Olive green.

    G. Gold or silver: Silver.

H: Height: 5′ 3″, although I might be a bit shorter, depending on who is measuring. ;)

I: Instruments that you can play: Does the guitar or drums on Rock Band count?

J: Job title: Momma and Wife.

K: Kids: Two sweet girls and a darling boy.

    L: Live: Missouri.

M: Mom’s name: Julie – which I’ve always loved. It just seems like a good, sweet, kind person’s name. Of course she is all of those.

N:Nicknames: Where do I start? I think my parents called me “Lizzie” when I was very young and probably “Elizabeth” too. Then I came home from pre-school and asked my parents to call me “Betsy” when I was about 3, so I went by that for the next nine or ten years. Then I started a new school and went by “Liz” starting in the 6th grade. I’ve been Liz ever since, with the occasional nickname thrown out there.

O: Overnight hospital stays: I had three c-sections, so I had hospital stays with them. Honestly I loved my time in the hospital.

P: Pet peeve: Stepping out of the shower/tub onto a wet floor. Can’t. Handle. It. There are more, but I don’t have all day.

Q: Quote from a movie: My favorite movie is Dumb and Dumber: “We got no food, no jobs… our PETS’ HEADS ARE FALLING OFF!”

R: Righty or lefty: Right handed.

S: Sibling: Five!  Two step-brothers (although our parents are no longer married), two brothers and one sister.

T: Time you wake up: Usually about 7 AM when Bingo or Sunshine come crawling in! We’ve had to wake Punkin up for the past several weeks.

U: Underwear: Yes, I have some on, thanks for asking.

V:Vegetables you dislike: Hmmm. I can’t think of any I dislike.

W: What makes you run late: Forgetting something is typical and never fails. I’ve gotten better, but I’ve got a long ways to go.

X: X-rays: Dental. Late in my pregnancy with Bingo when they thought I might have pneumonia and was to have a c-section the next week. When I broke my pinky finger in third grade.

Y: Yummy food you make: Everything, of course. :) No, ummm, maybe baked goods? I love to bake, but haven’t since we’ve moved. I do cook nearly every meal though.

Z: Zoo favorite animal: I really love the elephants.
Ahhh. That was fun! Feel free to post something about yourself in the comments that I may not know about. :)
    Hugs, Liz

    This week:

    1. Bingo put earrings into my ears, very, very carefully. He then told me I looked “petty”.
    2. The little kids and I made smoothies several times. The best one consisted of 1 large carrot, 2 apples (cored but skin ON), 2 oranges (peeled), 1 banana, 1/2 avocado, juice of 1 lemon, 1/4 cup coconut milk and a handful of ice cubes. Seriously good! I think I will be freezing some bananas so I don’t have to use ice next time.
    3. Cuddled. Really, is anything better than cuddling with warm, cute, freshly bathed children? Doubt it.
    4. We’ve been reading a lot around here. Punkin is really getting the hang of it. Sunshine is also knows all the letter sounds and can sound out a few words on her own. They are both very proud of themselves, as well as they should be.
    5. I’ve been getting antsy about the new house and all the plans I have been making in my head. I want to do this to the girls’ room closet (since all of the kids’ clothes will stay in the laundry room).
    6. While in the car, Sunshine asked me how old I will be on my next birthday. I told her, 30. Bingo started cracking up and said, “that’s FUNNY!”. Thanks, kid.
    7. I spent my Wednesday going over paint colors for the new house. I cannot wait to get in there and get to work!
    8. This weekend should be a lot of fun. We have Little Miss Lucy and her parents coming into town. GC bought tickets to see a puppet show on Saturday. I can’t wait to hang out with them!
    9. The weather has been great the last few days. A bit foggy in the morning and damp throughout the day, but the temps have been in the 60′s so that has been amazing!
    10. We’ve got three kid birthdays coming up next month. They will be 7, 5 and 3. Doesn’t seem possible. At. All.

    Have a super-d-duper Thursday!

The kids are convinced that when they walk out of the room, their new friends really do come to life.

    Photobucket

Just the other day, Jesse was sitting on a chair and when the girls went back into the room, she was on a shelf. They swear that neither of them put her up there, and honestly I didn’t either. Maybe Bingo did? I don’t know, but that one event has sealed their belief that their toys are alive.

    Photobucket

I remember spending the night at my aunt and uncle’s house when I was a kid. We had a ton of Cabbage Patch Dolls that we played with there. My Aunt Cyndi would tell my cousin, my sister and me that she heard the dolls talking whenever we left the room. We would walk out of the room and try and quickly sneak back in to catch those dolls off guard.

    Photobucket

We never caught them. Those dolls were good.

Looks to me like Woody is pretty excited here, so I can’t help but think that maybe, just maybe, they are real.

    Have a wonderful Friday,

It seems that lately I’ve been preoccupied and haven’t had the time nor the energy to write. What was supposed to be a one truck move turned into a two truck, two car move. Most of our belongings are in storage until we know for sure where we will be putting them. Punkin started school this past week and is all smiles when she hops on and off the bus. I can’t say enough good things about her new school. They’ve opened their arms to her and our family and I am so very grateful for that.

The car we purchased less than three months ago needs a complete rehaul of the transmission. The frustrating part was that I took the car in within a month of purchasing it and told the owner of the dealership that the transmission was slipping. I knew that, because our van’s had just gone out. I was sent away with new fluids and told it was fine. Now three months later I have no car to drive and there’s a big jerk in Austin who refuses to take any responsibility for this. Very frustraing to say the least. If only this man knew how very stubborn I can be when it comes to being right. I guess he never stood behind me in the checkout line at Target while I argued over a .50 coupon being valid. He’s got another thing coming if he thinks he can push me around and tell me he’s “sorry for the inconvenience but not going to do anything about it.” He hasn’t heard the last of me. All I’ve got to say is that you need to stay far, far away from JD Motors in Austin, TX.

On a brighter note, the kids have gotten to spend some good, quality time with their cousins lately. Here they are with their cousin, Allison. She’s just about the sweetest girl I know; so very kind to the kids and extremely patient when they are playing. I love her to pieces and can’t wait to spoil her.

    Photobucket

Speaking of spoiling, this little one is across the state and we don’t get to see her very much. But man-o-man is she a hoot! She’s a funny little thing with lots of zest for life. She has the vocabulary of a five-year old and doesn’t like me one bit. I think she’s the first child I’ve ever come across that didn’t warm to me. I swear her parents must whisper scary Aunt Liz stories to her at night. Guess I’ll just have to send more gifts. ;)

    Photobucket

Tonight Schmoopie met up with some old friends he played ball with for years and is having a great time, I’m sure. The kids and I watched “Eight Below” all snuggled up, eating popcorn after supper. It was a good time!

Now, I’m off to sleep. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

    Thankful

    Posted in: Uncategorized

I know it’s a bit late to be talking about Thanksgiving, but I’m going to do it anyway. So there!

Schmoopie, the kids and I drove up to KC last Wednesday to celebrate the Holiday with our families. It was a last minute decision to head out of town. We had planned on my dad and his girlfriend coming down for the Thanksgiving day, but they were just as excited to see us up there.

The drive was long, as we started out later than we had hoped. We got in around 8 or so in the morning after leaving at 5:15 the night before. It took a little longer because we needed to pull over for a couple hours to rest our eyes.

As soon as we got to where we were staying, I crashed for a few hours and the kids played with Schmoopie’s mom. We then headed over to my mom’s house. This is where my thankfulness comes in.

I can’t tell you how important my family is to me. They are everything. Although they’ve all been divorced from one another, remarried with new children, etc., they still care about one another. I don’t know if there is another family on the planet where all those people get along, truly care about one another and would do anything for each other. In my mother’s house we had my father, his girlfriend, my ex-step-father, their son Gabe, my oldest brother and his daughter, my aunt and her two kids (Nannie is one of them), my sister and her girlfriend, my mother-in-law, myself, Schmoopie and our kids. Not to mention three dogs. You know what? It works for us. I had a fabulous time hanging out with some of my very favorite people.

To top things off, my ex step-mom, Sha Sha, the one that came to TX a few months ago, was also invited to dinner. She couldn’t make it because her own grown children were at her house for dinner. After dinner, my mom sent her an email expressing to her that she was sorry she didn’t make it and she hoped that Sha Sha could go over for coffee some Sunday. These two women are what I think of when I envision strength, determination and love. Thank you two for your kindness towards one another. You have no idea how much it means to me and the rest of the family, I’m sure.

Funny thing? I didn’t even bring my camera inside my mom’s house. I don’t know if I was just so darn tired from the ride or if I wanted to enjoy myself without having to feel like I needed to catch every little detail. Either way, I didn’t take a single shot with the camera the entire time we were away. Lucky for me, Nannie Annie did. She has her own blog at Annie Bee Photography and she showed some of the photos from the day. She has a better eye for it anyway.

Growing up I knew that my family was different from my friends whose families were divorced. I remember hearing about how their parents didn’t get along, fought like crazy and it made their children miserable. Although not every step of the process was pleasant (to say the least) for all involved, in the end my parents (and their spouses) did the best that they could. I grew up knowing that my parents still loved one another even if they couldn’t be married any longer. They never, ever talked bad about one another around my sister or me, nor did they allow their spouses at the time to do that either. My sister and I always had both sides of our family at birthday and graduation celebrations and never had to worry that they wouldn’t get along. Coming from a divorced family is hard enough on kids, without the constant worry about upseting the “other side”.

So, what am I thankful for?

    •  This family I belong to is pretty dang incredible. Their love and kindness for one another shows way beyond what is expected from exes.
    • The love they have for Punkin, Sunshine and Bingo. Grandparent love is like no other and these kids are beyond loved.
    • My husband. I can’t say enough good things about this man. He is strong, brilliant and is always there to make me feel better. He would, and does do anything I need him to do. I couldn’t ask for a better partner.
    • My mother-in-law for her kindness and her willingness to always do what she can to help us out.
    • My father-in-law. He is by far one of my favorite people to be around. Funny, funny, caring guy.
    • Lucy…I just wish she’d like ME. ;) Oh and her parents too. They’e pretty cool.
    • My siblings. Although annoying at times ;) , they brighten my life in so many ways.
    • Grandparents , the ones I belong to because of blood and those I married into, are fascinating people and we don’t see them nearly enough.

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I think it may have been my favorite so far.
